“If I could tell my newly diagnosed self one thing it would be 'You might not believe it now, but in a few months you’ll be living the quality of life you always dreamed of.'"
It was 2021, and Katie found herself with a cough that she just couldn’t shake. It was the kind of cough that could make it hard to speak at times — a medical mystery.
Lung cancer may not have been on Katie’s mind, but it was on her scans. Katie received a Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis, and was told that she had just months to live. Thankfully, that estimate was dead wrong.
Nearly three years later, Katie is thriving thanks to genetic biomarker testing of her cancer, which unlocked her access to a targeted therapy that’s treating her cancer while allowing her to enjoy all life’s adventures. But don’t take it from us. Take it from Katie herself:
Had Katie been diagnosed a decade or two ago, there simply wouldn’t be an option like this. But thanks to a powerful combination of advocacy, support, and research, Canada is creating more lung cancer survivors than we ever thought possible. There’s never been more reasons to be hopeful about lung cancer.
