Lung Health Foundation Welcomes Two New Board Members to Advance Lung Health for All Canadians

The Lung Health Foundation (LHF) is proud to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors, effective June 23, 2026. These appointments reflect our continued commitment to strong governance, diverse leadership, and the unwavering belief that every Canadian deserves access to the best possible lung health care.

Joining the board are Dr. Curtis Sobchak, an Indigenous physician and internal medicine specialist serving communities across Northern Ontario and Six Nations of the Grand River, and Guy N. Orsot, a global development finance leader and health-sector investor based in Montréal.

Meet the Newest Members of the LHF Board of Directors:

Dr. Curtis Sobchak

Assistant Professor, McMaster University & Physician Lead, Six Nations of the Grand River

Dr. Curtis Sobchak is an Indigenous internist, educator, and equity advocate whose clinical and academic work centres on improving health outcomes for Indigenous peoples across Canada. As Physician Lead at the Six Nations Internal Medicine Assessment Clinic in Ohsweken, Ontario, and Director of the Internal Medicine Assessment Clinic at Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, he brings a front-line understanding of the systemic gaps facing patients in underserved communities.

A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine and McMaster University’s Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine fellowship programs, Dr. Sobchak now serves as an Assistant Professor at McMaster and Adjunct Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). He is also completing McMaster’s Clinician Educator Program and the Indigenous Healthcare Administration and Leadership Program (IHALP) at UBC.

Dr. Sobchak’s scholarly work, peer-reviewed publications, and award-winning mentorship — including the 2025 Circles of Care Strategic Alignment Fund Grant supporting Indigenous health education — reflect a long-standing commitment to dismantling barriers within medical training and health systems. His expertise in Indigenous health, health equity, and patient-centred care will be a vital voice on our board as LHF works to ensure no Canadian is left behind.

Guy N. Orsot

Investment Officer, IFC (World Bank Group)

Guy Orsot has spent more than a decade at two of the world’s foremost development finance institutions — Proparco (AFD Group) and IFC (World Bank Group) — originating and closing over USD $500M in investments that improve and save lives. His portfolio spans West Africa and includes landmark transactions in infrastructure, governance reform, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, most notably a EUR 70M investment to build a facility capable of producing five billion life-saving tablets annually in Côte d’Ivoire.

Now based in Montréal, Guy brings this global expertise home to Canada. He holds an Engineering degree from INPHB and an MSc in Management (Finance) from ESCP Business School in Paris, along with designations in Sustainability & Climate Risk and Energy Risk, and a certificate in Applied Data Science from MIT Professional Education.

Guy’s commitment to health is not only professional — it is personal. Having lost a parent to respiratory illness, and with a family member currently navigating cancer, he brings to the LHF board a perspective shaped by both global scale and human experience. He joins as an active member of CAFIID, Canada’s Forum for Impact Investment and Development, and is committed to catalysing meaningful investment in lung health for Canadians.

More than six million Canadians are living with lung disease — yet access to care, education, and support remains uneven, particularly for Indigenous communities and those in remote or underserved regions. Our Board of Directors plays a vital role in ensuring LHF has the strategic direction, equity focus, and governance strength to meet this national challenge.

As we look ahead, the leadership and lived experience of our newest board members will deepen our impact across research, advocacy, education, and community care. We are grateful for their commitment — and excited about what we will accomplish together.
