A new chapter in clinical excellence and lung health advocacy
At the Lung Health Foundation, we believe that advancing lung health begins with clinically sound, evidence-based information. That’s why we’re proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Vaibhav Gupta, MD, PhD, FRCSC, as our new Chief Medical Advisor, effective October 1st, 2025.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Nottingham (UK), followed by surgical training at the University of Toronto, Western University, and the Mayo Clinic in the United States. He also holds a PhD in public health from the University of Toronto, where his research focused on surgical outcomes and system-level healthcare improvement.

A Lifelong Commitment to Lung Health
Dr. Gupta’s connection to lung health began in high school, when he worked on tobacco control initiatives with the Ontario Lung Association and the Ontario Ministry of Health. That early advocacy laid the foundation for a career dedicated to improving lung health – from grassroots efforts to global surgical innovation.
Today, as a practicing lung and chest surgeon, Dr. Gupta returns to his roots in a new capacity, bringing his expertise and passion to the Lung Health Foundation where he will continue championing better outcomes for Canadians impacted by lung disease.
What His Role Means for LHF
As Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Gupta will help guide the Lung Health Foundation’s clinical strategy, strengthen research collaborations, and ensure our public health initiatives are grounded in the best available evidence. His leadership will be instrumental in driving innovation, education, and advocacy for lung health nationally and globally.
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Gupta to the Lung Health Foundation, where his leadership will drive evidence-based innovation and a bold vision for lung health in Canada.
