Raise Awareness. Change Lives.
Stories from people living with COPD, caregivers and healthcare providers are needed to help Canadians understand the impact of the condition and work towards the day when it no longer goes under-prioritized, under-funded and under-treated.
If you have COPD or care for someone who does, you have a powerful story to share. Send it to us on social media using the hashtag #COPDvoices or email it to COPD@lunghealth.ca. Video, photos and written testimonials are welcome.
We Want to Hear Your COPD Story!
If you’re unsure where to start, consider answering these questions:
- How does COPD impact your everyday life?
- What was your journey to a diagnosis like?
- Do you feel supported or that the condition is understood?
- What do you want people to know about COPD?
The lack of understanding, misperceptions and negative bias surrounding COPD is impacting timely and quality care. Share your story to increase awareness and make COPD the health priority to should be.
We often hear from Canadians who struggle to participate in hobbies that once brought them so much joy, grandparents held back from playing with their grandchildren, some have given up careers and professional passions, and too many have unfairly faced blame and shame for their diagnosis. Still, it does not get the attention it deserves. Together, we’ll change that.
About COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is one of the world’s biggest killers and affects one-in-20 people. Globally, it has risen to become the third leading cause of death. Shockingly, someone dies from COPD on average every 10 seconds. About two million Canadians live with this condition that makes it hard to breathe. It’s a leading cause of hospitalization and death in Canada.
