Federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor announces funding for The Lung Association – Ontario to raise public awareness of the potential health risks of smoking cannabis

We want all Canadians to breathe better – and the first step is filling knowledge gaps.

The Lung Association – Ontario is pleased to announce that have received funding from Health Canada to lead a public education campaign that will help inform 18 to 25 year old Canadians about the potential lung health risks of smoking cannabis, and equip them with practical harm reduction tips they can use to protect their lungs. The campaign will debut in August, 2019 and run over the next two years.

The federal government’s approach around cannabis is “a plan that is sensible, responsible and equitable.” As Ontario’s leading organization in promoting healthy breathing, supporting those with lung disease, and finding future research solutions, we are excited to work with Health Canada on this and other projects that will make our country the safest place to breathe!

Read Health Canada’s press release here. “I am pleased that the Government of Canada continues to support community-based and Indigenous organizations across the country that are helping to educate the public about cannabis. These newly funded cannabis public education and awareness-building projects will allow for the development of much-needed resources that will serve Canadians, including populations that are at greater risk.”
– The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health
